Your V&A Dundee membership card is now plastic-free.
If you are not familiar with Streamline then you will almost certainly know their impressive client base. We are delighted to work closely with Streamline and share their environmental aspirations. Recently Streamline and their client V&A Dundee have pushed their membership and sustainability agenda to the next level. All of their membership cards are now plastic-free, 100% recyclable and biodegradable.
For their membership programme, Streamline and V&A Dundee were clear. They wanted high-quality eco membership cards made from ethically sourced materials. That’s a challenge we can accept!
What is special about these plastic-free membership cards is the eye-catching yet recognisable design. Even more significant is that they are the first plastic-free cards to use both bio coatings on one card; matte bio-coating and gloss bio-coating.
The face of this card has matte bio-coating, which is an aesthetic and adds robustness and makes them even more water resistant. Whilst the reverse has gloss bio-coating. This gives the V&A Dundee membership cards a unique finish and the capability to custom over-print using the compatible MAGiCARD 300 desktop printer.
Now V&A Dundee can print their member's details directly onto their membership cards on demand and in-house.
Say hello to the next generation of sustainable membership cards
From unmissable exhibitions and extraordinary collections, Streamline has been working V&A Dundee to expand their membership programme without compromising on their sustainability plan, continuing their mission to inspire and empower through design.
At Green Gift Cards, we have spent the past 20 years researching and innovating. The result is a truly sustainable, 100% plastic-free card made from high-quality paperboard.
Our cards offer a robust membership card that can withstand everyday life without compromising on print quality.
This combination combines our Green Gift Card philosophy with our new enviricard product. Utilising both the bio coating and the desktop printing capability. Businesses with a membership or ID card program can enhance their eco ethos whilst still offering custom desktop printing.
Why isn't recycled plastic enough?
Inspired by responsible manufacturing we have been working with our partners Holmen Iggesund in Sweden since 2011. Our founder, Graham Lycett, takes inspiration from the Mike Berners-Lee book - 'How Bad is a Banana?'. He is always looking for practical, real solutions to the plastic card problem.
In his book, Berners-Lee discusses calculating the true amount of carbon emitted to produce goods and food. Berners-Lee states that the production of 1 banana it creates 110g of Co2. This takes into account various factors such as water production, fertilizers, transport, and energy.
"The only truly sustainable option" - Graham Lycett
According to Uwe Trüggelmann, in his paper 'Carbon Footprint of the Card Industry', He estimates that one plastic card takes 20g - 50g of CO2 to manufacture. Alternatively, our premium paperboard cards take just 11g per card. The materials used in our cards are manufactured using only biomass fuel, further supporting the sustainability credentials.
Where a plastic card is made from recycled plastic or can be recycled, the continuous energy used in manufacturing or recycling creates even more CO2. Sadly, when a recycled plastic card has lived its life; it will still end up in the same landfills it was always destined for.
